6th Paragraph

Translation

So this is how the Greeks defeated the Persians and* liberated Greece. What is more, in this undertaking of all the Greeks the Athenians provided most ships, and showed the greatest courage, so that one may rightly say [it is possible to say in truth] that the Athenians saved Greece, and not least Themistokles who, as Athenian general, was most responsible for this victory.

 *  While we say "did" and "did": They won and liberated
Greek prefers: "doing" "did": by defeating (= through their victory) they liberated
νικῶντες would mean: while winning
νικήσαντες means: through their "achieved" victory
ἠλευθέρωσαν means "success"!
ἠλευθέρουν  would have meant "on-going" liberation, little by little, one step at a time.
