Remember to read for meaning! The story is important, not for itself but to give you a framework to work in. You remember situations and the words connected with them much more readily than items of vocabulary floating around in a void. When learning

αἴρει = he/she lifts and he/she lifts = αἴρει you concentrate on word + translation of word, not on the act of lifting itself. That is tyring, boring, frustrating and, worst of all, unproductive.

Try and remember words in their context: the man lifts (αἴρει) a heavy stone that is obstructing his work.

What next? Obviously he carries φέρει it somewhere, to get rid of it. Where to? Look at the picture: a pile of stones. When you come across αἴρει later on in your reading you'll recall chubby Dikaiopolis lifting this big stone. But you'll remember not only to lift, but to carry as well, and maybe pile, tree, bird..... The words by themselves mean nothing, you must give them substance and context. And it's much easier to remember pictures and situations than just translations that have no life of their own, don't reflect any lived reality but depend on your mother tongue to - maybe - give them meaning.
