Remember to actually SEE (with your mind's eye) whatever the word or situation suggested represents.

Treat foreign words not as translations of English but rather as synonyms (different words to express the same meaning), to be used instead of the English word:
So you'd call Ξανθίας a δοῦλος and Dikaiopolis his δεσπότης  .
You'd describe him as ἰσχυρός but ῥᾴθυμος (ἀργός),  or
You'd describe him as strong μέν, lazy δέ.
You'd describe him as ἰσχυρός but οὐκ ἄοκνος or
You'd describe him as strong ἁλλὰ not energetic.

Vocabulary is easier to learn with the help of pictures:
To learn the word for * ox *  ὁ  βοῦς  with the help of a little picture of an ox, is all very nice, but an even better picture can be achieved by you yourself in your own mind: of a real ox or of one imagined by you (it can be as realistic or crazy as you wish).
That way you are involved in, and take control of, your own learning. You do not just passively mouth what other people have thought up, but use new knowledge actively, according to your personal preferences, wishes, needs.
