Nouns
1st declension: 3 groups
- ἡ κόρη, τῆς κόρης, the girl
- ἡ οἰκία, τῆς οἰκίας, the house (the building), cf. ὁ οἶκος
- ἡ τράπεζα, τῆς τραπέζης, table, think of a trapeze, the shape of an upside down table. And as originally banking was carried out in the ἀγορά (the market-place, in Rome the forum), on tables, τράπεζα came to mean "bank"
- Adjectives
They follow the same pattern as the nouns, except that the genitive plural always has the same accent on the same syllable as the genitive singular.
