Gods and Men

Paragraph 1

It says: "Religion permeated Greek life." What does that mean?
Who was Hesiod and what advice does he give. Why? (See also paragraph 4 about the idea the Greeks had of their gods)
Compare this view of religion to your own.

Paragraph 2

How did the Greek come to have so many different gods?
Who were the 12 most important ones (see here for their names in uppercase letters and my reading).
Why are they called "Olympian" and which were their respective spheres of influence?
How were they related to each other?

Paragraph 3

Which is the main difference between the religion of the Ancient Greeks and most other religions, as far as worshipping is concerned (where? what?)

Paragraph 4

What did Greek gods look like?
In what way were they different from us? In what were they very similar?
Christians pray to their God (and saints) for miracles. So, in a way, did the Greeks. But their philosophy in that respect was totally different from ours. How?
