Plot

As seen in the picture, the wolf has finally appeared. Where from?
No more mention of the λαγώς that ὁ Ἄργος ἐδίωκεν (was chasing) ἀνὰ τὴν ὁδὸν εἰς τὰ ὄρη. Maybe ὁ λαγὼς οὕτω ταχέως ἔτρεχεν (was running) ὥστε ἀδύνατον ἦν (it was impossible) to catch it.
So now the hunt is on against the wolf. What will the outcome be? Who will prevail. (to win = νικᾶν.) τίς νικᾷ;

  • Paragraph 1 will tell the beginning of the fight.
  • Paragraph 2 the outcome.
  • Paragraph 3 grandpa's reaction
  • Paragraph 4 Philip's homecoming and the women's delight.
  • The last 2 paragraphs prepare us for the story that Myrrhine wants to tell her children (in chapter 6) about the outcome of another fight between a wild beast and a brave young man.
A few words related to fighting you'll meet:
noise, uproar, pelting, striking, knife, rushing, attacking, turning back, fleeing, holding fast (with teeth), struggling, lying dead.
Get your mind ready for them.
