Lesson 7b: Second paragraph

Translation

And Odysseus says: "We are Achaeans and are sailing home from Troy. But a storm drives us here."

As for the Cyclops he does not answer anything but rushes upon the Achaeans and seizes 2 of the companions and strikes them against the ground: their brains flow out and wet the earth.

ἁρπάζω I seize, grab, clutch

stronger than λαμβάνω, λαμβάνομαι 
λαμβάνω τὴν μάχαιραν I just take the knife
λαμβάνομαι τῆς μαχαίρας I get hold of it and hold on tight
ἁρπάζω τὴν μάχαιραν I snatch it up, quickly, strongly, violently, grab, seize
ὁ Κύκλωψ πελώριός ἐστιν · ἁρπάζει οὖν τοὺς ἀνθρώπους
 

κόπτω we had in lesson six as
τὸν μόχλον δια-κόπτουσιν they cut through, break the bolt, stiking it and bashing through it

κόπτομεν we strike, bash, break,destroy, slaughter...
lots of nice actions expressed here. But also:
κόπτω τὰς πύλας. I knock at the gates
κόπτω τὴν θύραν. I knock on the door.
 

ὁ δὲ ἐγκέφαλος ἐκρεῖ: the brain flows out
from:  ἐκ  (out) and ῥεῖ (it flows)

ἡ κεφαλή is the head. So:
ὁ ἐγκέφαλος is what is inside the head. And the most important thing in our head is our brain.That's why we have encephalograms (X-rays of the brain, to see what's going on inside.
The ἐγ baffles you,  ν in front of  κ , γ , χ is written  γ 
 

δεύω to wet, make wet, drench even

ἡ Μέλιττα θραύει τὴν ὑδρίαν καὶ δεύει τὴν γῆν 
Little babies δεύουσι their nappies
dew makes everything wet: τὰ πάντα δεύει
