Translation

The temple is very big and very beautiful. For a long time they look at the carvings that decorate the whole temple. The doors are open; so the children walk up [to the doors] and go in. The whole inside is dark but they barely make out opposite [them] Athena's statue, the most beautiful work of Pheidias. The goddess gleams [all covered] with gold, holding Victory in her right hand and her shield in her left. And so the children are at the same time filled with awe and joy. And Philip goes forward and holding up his hands prays to the goddess:
Oh Maiden Athena, child of Zeus, protectress of our city, be gracious and listen to me praying: keep our town safe and keep us safe from all dangers. And then he goes back towards Melitta and leads her out of the temple.
