Translation

It's evening now. [ἤδη can be either 'now' or 'already'. I chose 'now', but 'already' is just as good, it depends on your point of view.]. After a while the people all fall silent; for the herald approaches and says in a loud voice [shouting]: "Be silent, citizens, for the procession is approaching. Get out of the way [out-of-the-feet]." And so all get out of the way and await the procession.

Make sure you remember what the following words stand for:

  • [σιγάω] σιγῶ 
  • ὁ κήρυξ, τοῦ κήρυκος, τοῖς κήρυξι 
    There still were κήρυκες not that long ago: town criers
  • ἡ πομπή 
  • ἐκποδὼν γίγνομαι 
        ὁ ποῦς, τοῦ ποδός     the foot
        So ἐκποδών is an adverb derived from " ἐκ τῶν ποδῶν "
  • μένω (2 meanings):
      1. to remain, to stay
          οὐκ ἐξέρχομαι,  οἴκοι μένω
         μένω πρὸς τῇ νηί
      2. to (a)wait
          μένω τὴν πομπήν, τὸν φίλον, τοὺς χορούς
