Translation

It is now middle of the night and many of those present being drunk are reveling. And so Murrine, afraid for her children, says: "Come on, husband, grandfather is very tired. It's time to go back to the gates and sleep." But grandfather says: "What are you saying, I for one am not tired, I want to make merry." But Dikaiopolis says: "You're old, father; it is not suitable for you to revel. Come." Thus he speaks and leads them towards the gates. When they arrive they find the mule and all sleep on the ground.

Make sure you remember what these words represent:

  • μέσος, μέση, μέσον 
  • κωμάζω 
  • ὁ γέρων, τοῦ γέροντος, τοῖς γέρουσι 
  • προσήκει τινὶ ποιεῖν τι 
    In English we 'becoming' meaning 'suitable, decorous'
    In Englishit becomes someone to do sth

    In Englishἥκει he/she/it comes. (Don't cite me on this, I just find it easier to remember this way)
        οὐ προσήκει ἡμῖν μεθύειν 
        οὐ προσήκει τῷ δούλῳ ἀργῷ εἶναι 
        προσήκει τῇ γυναικὶ τῷ ἀνδρὶ ἕπεσθαι      (in ancient Greece of course)
        προσήκει τοῖς παισὶ τοῖς τέκουσι πείθεσθαι 
  • χαμαί 
    We've seen in lesson3b sowing seeds ἐν τῷ πέδῳ 
    lesson 4b Melitta καταβάλλει τὴν ὑδρίαν πρὸς τὴν γῆν 
    lesson 5b ὁ λύκος καταπίπτει πρὸς τὴν γῆν 
        τὸν λύκον ὁρᾷ ἐπὶ τῇ γῇ κείμενον 
    And now χαμαί : χαμαὶ κείμενος, lying on the ground.
