Translation paragraph 4

And Theseus is not afraid but takes his thread - for this is how he gets to know the way - and leads his companions towards the gates. When they arrive there, they cut through the bolt and wait there: for it is still day. When night falls, they come out of the labyrinth and hurry to their ship. There they see Ariadne; for she is waiting by the ship. And so they quickly embark and sail away towards Athens. So this is how Theseus kills the Minotaur and gets his companions safely back to Athens.

τὸν λίνον λαμβάνει · οὕτω γὰρ τὴν ὁδὸν γιγνώσκει

we could have said: τοῦ λίνου λαμβάνεται 
You could say, about my using λαμβάνεται again,
μὴ οὕτω pedantic ἴσθι , but
οὕτω ποιοῦσιν that is how they do it, so
οὕτω οὖν λέγω καὶ ἐγώ 
if I want to say that he grabs hold of the string, rather than just vaguely " takes" it. Their lives depend on that piece of string.
οἱ μὲν ἑταῖροι τὴν ὁδὸν ἀγνοοῦσιν, ὁ δὲ Θησεὺς τὸν λίνον ἔχει.
τῷ λίνῳ ἕπονται. 
ὁ γὰρ Θησεὺς αυτὸς (himself) τὴν ὁδὸν ἀγνοεῖ, ἀλλὰ γιγνώσκει αὐτὴν thanks to Ariadne's foresight. (According to some It actually was Daedalos, the builder of the labyrinth, who had told her the little trick with the string.
οὕτω γὰρ λέγει ὁ μῦθος
 

ἐπεὶ δὲ ἀφικνοῦνται πρὸς τὰς πύλας, τὸν μοχλὸν διακόπτουσιν.

the gates are kept shut μοχλῷ with the help of one of those. No, not a calf, that was μόσχος , and the farmer was carrying one of those in lesson one. You don't use a  μόσχον to keep gates shut, you keep μόσχους in with the help of bolts  μοχλοῖς .
To keep similar sounding words apart, the only valid method is repeatedly using them, till each sounds like what it is supposed to sound like: itself.
We usually have locks, they had μοχλούς 
ἰδοὺ see the dear little μόσχον gnawing the μοχλὸν to get out, till you feel how silly using wrong words can sound.
If you go to Greece and see μοσχάρι on a menu you might think it means "veal" when it actually, in modern Greek, means "beef" (which is just a grown-up calf μόσχος.
So what do they do to the  μοχλῷ? διακόπτουσιν αὐτόν 
διά through, and
κόπτω I strike, I knock
 

ἐπεὶ δὲ γίγνεται ἡ νύξ, ἐξέρχονται

διὰ τί οὐκ ἐξέρχονται νῦν γε;
ἔτι ἡμέρα ἐστίν, φοβοῦνται οὖν to be seen and recaptured
Use ἐξέρχομαι , ἆρ' ἐξέρχει ; ἐξέρχεται ....saying that or when or where you go out, asking someone if they're going out, now? where to? at this time of night! ....
 

ἀποπλέουσι πρὸς τὰς Ἀθήνας

ἀποπλέουσιν ἀπὸ τῆς Κρήτης
εἰσπλέουσιν εἰς the harbour
αἱ νῆες ἐκπλέουσιν out of the harbour καὶ μάχονται against the Persians
ἡ ναῦς προσπλεῖ πρὸς μέγαν πέτραν towards, up to a big rock. Peter is rock solid, so is Petra.

οὕτως οὖν σῴζει τοὺς ἑταίρους
